Train the Trainer: One Day Programme

Teaching, training, and supervising others is expected in your role, whatever your grade. Nobody hands you the theory, the assessment tools or the protected time to work out how to do it well.

One day covering the whole foundation of the educator role, from how people actually learn to how you assess them fairly. Open to all doctors at any stage of your career.

• Plan a teaching session using educational theory that holds up in a busy clinical environment, not just a classroom.
• Adapt your teaching to the different learning needs in the room, including neurodivergent learners and doctors new to the NHS.
• Give developmental feedback verbally and in writing that a resident can act on, including when performance falls short.
• Use workplace based assessments and the portfolio for their intended purpose, and judge performance objectively against the standard.
• Describe the Educational and Clinical Supervisor roles precisely, and build the supportive learning environment both of them depend on.
