Undergraduate Team Development Day
what does this course cover?
If you are part of a team teaching undergraduate medical students, you already feel the pull in multiple directions. You are trying to create meaningful learning experiences while managing a packed timetable, a diverse cohort, and students who are each carrying pressures you may only partially see.
Some of those students are struggling with their mental health. Some are neurodivergent and navigating a curriculum that was not designed with them in mind. Most will never tell you directly. And the system rarely gives you the time or the tools to respond well.
This day exists for exactly that gap. Designed for doctors, by doctors, it is a chance to lift your foot off the pedal, look honestly at how your team teaches and supports students, and build practical strategies you can actually use the following week.
Using real scenarios from your own teaching environment, you will work alongside peers who understand the same context, explore what is and is not working, and leave with a clearer picture of how to make your learning environment genuinely work for every student in it.
high-level aim:
To equip undergraduate teaching teams with the practical tools and shared language to create learning environments where every student, including those with mental health challenges and neurodivergent needs, can genuinely thrive.
Learning outcomes:
- Reflect honestly on the current learning environment you are creating and identify the gaps between intention and experience for your students.
- Understand the psychological demands of undergraduate medical training and what your team can do to support students before problems escalate.
- Build practical strategies to make your teaching more inclusive for neurodivergent learners, without overhauling everything you already do.
- Develop a shared team approach to recognising and responding to students in difficulty, so the response is consistent, fair and proportionate.
- Leave with concrete, realistic changes your team can implement immediately, knowing that small shifts in how you teach and support students compound into significantly better outcomes over time.
