Supporting Doctors - Leadership & Generalist Skills

This full-day programme will equip you with an understanding of the NHS England enhance programme, how it aligns with the core Curricula and what is expected from educational supervisors.

We will explore how the enhance programme adds value to the Foundation curriculum and encourages a more holistic approach to patient care. Participants will learn how enhance is being implemented locally and how best to support Foundation doctors to develop their contextual leadership and generalist skills.

The aim of this workshop is to increase awareness and understanding of the NHS England Enhancing Generalist Skills (enhance) programme for Foundation doctors. It highlights the similarities & differences between enhance and the Foundation curriculum and details what additional support and guidance is expected of Educational Supervisors.

• Explore the concepts of compassionate and contextual leadership and how to support your trainee to develop higher level leadership skills.
• Use the mentor mindset to activate and inspire the younger generation and drive culture change – with a spotlight on the key themes of environmental sustainability and health inequalities.
• Appreciate an overview of generalism, how it links to the LongTerm Workforce Plan and the benefits of a more holistic approach to patient care, safety and experience.
• Understand how the enhance programme supports junior doctors to develop holistic attitudes, skills and behaviours, how this maps to existing Foundation curriculum and how it benefits doctors in training and the wider health & care system.
• Develop your supervision skills by learning how enhance is being implemented locally and how you can support Foundation doctors to get the most out of the programme.
