Support Residents to Manage Stress and Enhance Mental Fitness
what does this course cover?
Your resident is exhausted, and telling them to look after themselves stopped working long ago. Rota gaps, service pressure and moral injury are doing the damage, and no amount of individual resilience training fixes a system problem.
This session gives you the conversations and practical strategies that help, plus honesty about the limits of what one supervisor can carry.
Learning outcomes:
- Spot the early signs of stress, fatigue and burnout in a resident, before performance or patient safety is affected.
- Run a one to one that opens up how a resident is actually coping, without turning the meeting into a clinical assessment.
- Coach on energy management rather than time management, so residents protect recovery as deliberately as study time.
- Build a learning environment where residents say they are struggling early, and trust that saying so will not be held against them.
- Know where your supervisory role ends, and which occupational health, professional support or coaching routes to open next.
